Once we let exponential technology out of the bag, itвЂ™s tough to contain it.

But personally I find the end a bit disconcerting, in a PandoraвЂ™s Box kind of way. ItвЂ™s just two abstract concepts that make each other increasingly more so. The system above doesnвЂ™t really necessitate fear/action. This drastically increases individual rates of learning+value creation, while greatly expanding the number of people who can learn+contribute. By 2020, 80% of the adults on earth will have a smartphone. This transition gets faster and faster as we become a hyper-networked organism.

The unfortunate thing is that the Human Colossus isnвЂ™t optimized to maximize the chances of a safe transition to the best possible Planet 4 for the most possible humans - itвЂ™s optimized to build Planet 4, in any way possible, as quickly as possible.вЂќ In other words, weвЂ™re heading towards a non-antifragile cliff. This is because weвЂ™ve primarily achieved that growth through exponential technological progress that is capitalistically incentivized to ignore externalities. However, I think that system wonвЂ™t work for the 21st century (#LateStageCapitalism). Perhaps the idea behind capitalism isвЂ¦: the system facilitates the conversion of selfish aims (or, to be correct, not necessarily benevolent ones) at the individual level into beneficial results for the collective.

As Nassim Nicholas Taleb says in Antifragile: WeвЂ™ve achieved this collective growth through primarily вЂњnon-benevolentвЂќ means.
